Upload Society started life as Sceneslive, a video-sharing community I kept developing for years on an old PHP codebase. Eventually that engine became a dead end — every new feature took longer to build than the last, with no real path forward on it. So I rebuilt the whole thing from scratch on modern infrastructure, and gave it a new name to match the fresh start: Upload Society.
The timing wasn't random. rabb.it — the watch-together platform a lot of people still miss — shut down years ago with nothing real ever stepping in to replace it. Upload Society is my answer to that: a place to upload, share, and watch together with real people, without an algorithm or a moderation team deciding what you're allowed to say.
The old site was also a constant target of spam attacks — bots and coordinated accounts flooding comments and channels with junk. Free speech is one thing, but spam isn't speech, it's abuse, so Upload Society actively detects and restricts spam accounts without touching anyone's ability to say what they actually think.
