Upload Society is a free video upload site for sharing videos and hosting live watch-together rooms in one place — a proper video-upload and channel experience with live watch-together rooms built in, plus its own channels, comments, playlists, and moderation tools, all under one roof.
Click sign up in the sidebar to create an account with a username, email, and password. Check your inbox for a verification email — you'll need to click the link there before you can log in.
Prefer not to set a new password? Use Continue with Google or Continue with Facebook on the sign up or login page instead — your account gets created (or logged into, if you've used it before) automatically, with your email already verified.
Once you're signed up, use the sidebar on the left to get around the site: your channels directory, favorites, messages, notifications, and settings are all one click away, no matter what page you're on.
Use the search videos and search members icons in the header to find something by title or username — results update live as you type, and link straight to the video's watch page or the member's channel.
Click the upload icon to pick a video file from your device and give it a title. It'll start processing in the background — this can take a little while for longer videos.
Once it's done, find it under My Videos as a draft. From there you can rename it, choose a category, and when you're happy with it, click Publish to make it live on your channel and eligible to show up on the homepage.
Drafts you never publish are private — nobody else can see them until you do.
Want to share a video with just a few specific people instead of publishing it to everyone? Open it for editing, set Status to Privately shared to, and search for the usernames you want to share it with (you can add as many as you like). Only you and the people you've picked can view it — everyone else gets a "not found" page, same as with a draft.
Want to share it with all of your friends instead of picking each one by name? Set Status to Privately shared to friends — no need to search for anyone. It always matches whoever is currently your friend, so someone you friend later can watch it too, and someone you unfriend loses access right away.
You can always download your own uploads from My Videos. To let other people download one too, open it for editing and set Allow video download to To Everyone or Friends Only — a Download button then appears on the video's watch page for anyone that applies to. It's set to Don't allow by default.
Every account has its own channel page — think of it as your profile. Open Settings and look for the channel customization options to change how yours looks:
Don't want to fiddle with every color yourself? Visit your own channel page and click fix channel colors to instantly get a randomly-picked, ready-made color theme.
To change your profile picture, go to your own channel page and click the camera icon over your current avatar.
The more videos dropdown on your channel switches between your uploaded videos, favorited videos, and playlists — pick which one shows by default under Settings > Videos shown on channel. You can also feature any video as your channel's main video, including one you've favorited rather than uploaded yourself.
Featured Channels is a box on your channel page you curate yourself — give it a title and add up to 30 other channels (by username) in whatever order you like, to shout out friends or channels you recommend.
Every channel can run one poll at a time. Click Modify in your poll box to write a question and 2–6 answer options, then Publish to make it live on your channel for everyone to see.
Visitors pick an option and click Vote — after voting (or if it's your own poll), they see the results instead: a percentage breakdown for each option, the total vote count, and their own pick highlighted. Changing your mind? Voting again just moves your vote.
To change the question or options, Unpublish the poll first — this permanently clears all existing votes, since changing a poll would make old votes meaningless. Then edit it and publish again.
From Settings, you control exactly who can see different parts of your channel — each of the following can be set to Everyone, Friends only, or Hidden:
You can also turn comments off on your channel entirely (the chat mode toggle), and control what shows up in your activity feed to the people subscribed to you (uploads, favorites, comments, or none of it).
The strongest privacy tool is blocking someone directly — see Blocking Users below.
Every account belongs to a user group — Normal by default for everyone. Two other groups, Content Creator and Private Society, give extra protection over who can interact with you: Content Creator still lets spammers lightly react/comment on your own videos and channel page (privately, visible only to you, so your engagement stays real), while Private Society is the strongest option — spammers get zero ability to interact with you at all, however much or little you post.
Only a moderator or admin can actually change your user group. If you'd like to be considered for Content Creator or Private Society, open Settings > User Group and submit an application with a short explanation — a moderator will review it. You can apply once per day.
Accounts that repeatedly break the rules may also be placed into a restricted group as part of enforcement — if that happens to you and you believe it was a mistake, you can apply to be moved back to Normal the same way, from Settings.
As a Content Creator, you can also open the channel page of someone in a restricted group directly — useful for seeing who they are before deciding whether to block them. You can send them a friend request too — once they accept, communication opens up fully between just the two of you, nothing changes in how they're treated by anyone else.
Content Creators also see restricted accounts' comments and reactions everywhere else on the site by default — on other members' channels and videos, not just your own — so you're never kept in the dark about who's around. On your own channel or videos, a restricted account's comment stays private to just you at first — click Approve on it to make that one comment fully public to everyone, including logged-out visitors.
You may also spot a "Power Uploader" badge on some channels — that one's just a moderator-awarded recognition badge for prolific uploaders, separate from user groups above and with no rules of its own attached.
Add friend from anyone's channel page, or from the channels directory — they'll need to accept before you're officially friends.
Subscribe to a channel (no acceptance needed) to follow their uploads, and to get notified the moment they start a Live Room.
Send a private message from someone's channel page, or from your own Messages page — as long as their privacy settings allow it. You can attach up to 3 images to a message using the image icon next to the send button.
Leave a comment on a video or a channel page (if the owner allows it), and reply to other comments to start a thread. The comment box has four embed buttons: upload an image from your device, search and insert a GIF, embed a YouTube video, or embed one of the videos already hosted on Upload Society. A single comment can include up to 3 of these embeds, in any combination.
When someone replies to your comment, you'll get a notification that links straight to the reply and briefly highlights it, so it's easy to find even in a busy thread.
React with any emoji on a comment, or on the video itself — click the small emoji icon next to it to open the picker.
If a comment breaks the rules, use its report option — a moderator reviews it personally before anything happens, so nothing gets removed automatically.
On a video's watch page, click + add video to playlist to add it to one of your existing playlists, or create a new one on the spot by typing a name.
Your Playlists page shows each one as a thumbnail card with its video count — sort them by last updated, title, or number of videos. Open a playlist to watch through it in order; whichever video you're on plays with the rest of the queue listed in the sidebar.
If a video's own uploader has added it to one of their playlists, you'll see that playlist's queue in the sidebar automatically when you watch it — even without opening it through the playlist directly.
Below a video, click post a response and pick one of your own published videos to link it as a reply to that video. Responses show up in a list under the original video, and its uploader gets notified.
When editing your own video, use the Allow video responses setting to control who can respond: everyone, friends only (the default), noone (hides the whole section), or closed (keeps existing responses visible but stops new ones).
A Room is a shared hangout space — voice chat, optional webcams, text chat, and a shared "stage" the host can broadcast video into. Start one from the homepage's Start a room button.
You can only have one room at a time — starting a new one deletes whatever room you were hosting before (its chat history, participants, everything), so make sure you're done with your current one first.
Inside a room:
As the host, click Go Live in the Room Menu and pick how you want to stream to everyone in the room:
Click End Live (same menu) whenever you want to stop. If you're using streaming software, you can also turn on Record this stream to my videos before going live — it'll automatically save the broadcast as a draft in My Videos once you end it, ready for you to review and publish.
New rooms start out Private — only you, moderators, and anyone you've invited or who's already joined can get in.
Click Publish Room (next to the room title) to make it discoverable — this sets your room to "Only friends can join without asking," which also puts it on the homepage's Live Rooms section (and your own channel page) once you're actually streaming, with a live preview thumbnail of whatever's currently on screen, and lets your subscribers know you've gone live.
Open Room Privacy from the Room Menu any time to switch between all three modes, including fully Public (anyone with the link can join immediately, no approval needed).
While in friends-only mode, anyone who isn't already your friend has to ask first — you'll get a Join Requests panel showing who's asking, with three choices:
Blocking someone (from their channel page, or right from a room Join Request) keeps you both out of each other's way: they can't comment on your channel, message or friend you, or join your rooms at all.
See everyone you've blocked — and unblock them if you change your mind — under Channels > Blocked users.
Every video, channel, comment, and room has a report (or "flag") option. Reports go straight to the moderation team, who look at the actual content themselves before taking any action — nothing gets auto-banned by a script.
Moderators only ever see the content itself (videos, comments, channel pages) and act on reports and rule violations — they have no access to any account's personal data: not email addresses, not IP addresses, nothing beyond what's already public on the site.
