Sorry for the late reply Mark.I think it might be due to the fact that those viets in France were probably from the community that was loyal to the French regime.i know many Vietnamese in the West are Christian and collectively the community mixed the worst of the worlds with Asian conservatism and Catholic conservatism which might explain their isolated stance.also the Confucian philosophy is very influential in Vietnamese society which sees intermarriage as a disgrace to the ancestors hence why white sexpats complain in blogs about not getting pussy in Vietnam but getting lots in the Philippines or Thailand
Hey Mark. Was reading some of your comments on Anton page. Age of consent in Japan is 13 but Tokyo prefecture is 18. We do nawt view sexuality as something forbidden as Western societies do. Our natural belief system always been very open to all forms of sexuality. Is only due to Western influence that Japan gained some conservative ideals. During isolationism and before Meiji restoration, as a society we were very accepting of all forms of sexual orientation and gender identity. Cross-dressing was accepted in ancient Japan as androgyny is now. We are returning to our original beliefs, soon will be marriage equality here I think. Already this year was deemed unconstitutional to ban same-sex unions. Those conservative ideologies were forced on us during Meiji restoration, imperialism and post-war USA influence.
