I guess it shows history is never 100% in its elite vs peasant physical differences.also some merina highland folks did not mix with Bantu stock folks who are more common in coastal areas.some malagasy Canadians don't even identify as black for whatever the reason may be.50-60% of Madagascar's economy was dominated by the Karana people.a traditionally merchant class of Gujarati descent who are still without citizenship despite being in the country for 2-3 generations
The elites were the lighter skin straight haired folks descended from Austro nesian seafarers while the bottom class were the happy haired folks :(.though Madagascar did have a few queens who were dark skinned and course haired and the Bantu stock came in from Arab and interesting enough rouge European pirates as the channels of shark infested Mozambique were too much for the native South Bantu folk not to forget the fact that black African descended folk were not known for boat skills at all which is why cape Verde,Azores,Madeira and Mauritius were empty untouched wilderness with not even abandoned infrastructure that's been overtaken by vegetation
I often mix up Martinique and Guadeloupe.the difference is one island is more nature reserved ish than the other.I know I'm one of the islands the white settlers were not only from France bnormandy if not most were from Normandy.I know in Madagascar society there is a slow but growing natural hair movement i.e women rocking their afros and curly hair instead of hot combing i t,ironing it and such since even the hair shops there don't cater to natural hair :(
