Now I understand why you want to study constitutional law and political philosophy. I find your line of reasoning truly fascinating, especially when viewed against the backdrop of thinkers like Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Rousseau, and Mill—and their theories regarding power, order, and anarchy.
I realize that I personally tend to lean toward moral relativism. That is precisely why I find the dialogue between Sisko and Dukat so interesting; ultimately, so much depends on perspective: What is actually right and what is wrong? Who sets the standard?
In moral relativism, right and wrong depend on perspective and context. Moral objectivism, on the other hand, posits that there are moral truths that exist independently of our personal or societal perspectives.
And this is exactly where I arrive at a biblical understanding: I believe that the ultimate standard cannot be human logic, a given society, or a political order, but God Himself. In biblical ethics, good and evil are ultimately grounded in God and therefore cannot simply be altered by human majorities or societal notions.
Perhaps that is precisely what makes Dukat’s line of reasoning so compelling: based on his own logic, he can view his rule as a form of "necessary order."
