And yes, there is the issue that the violence associated with Halloween is far, far greater—though it mostly takes place in secret. If even half of it is true—well, these may not be the most extensive campaigns of violence the world has ever seen, but they are certainly the most chilling. Furthermore, I absolutely do not believe that the Crusades or the Inquisition can be linked to Christianity—even if they were carried out in the name of God.
If you raise children to believe that they should throw eggs at someone’s door if they don’t get any candy, then you shouldn’t be surprised when they grow into young adults who—if the state doesn’t provide everything their extravagant hearts desire—end up looting shops, torching cars, and beating people up.

However, that is not the topic for this evening. 2. I would, however, like to address the other aspect—Halloween—which is by no means a harmless pastime. There are spirits in the unseen realm that possess particular strength and energy on that day. If you don’t sense them, be glad; it means you have a protective shield. Sometimes, even now, I wish I could return to the naivety of my former life—but once you have seen what lies beyond, you can never be the same person again.
Is it permissible to hate evil, lies, or a lack of love, without becoming unloving oneself?
Psalm 97:10: “Let those who love the LORD hate evil!”
Whatever contradicts love deserves our resistance. Whatever contradicts the truth deserves our contempt. For those who love love cannot remain indifferent to a lack of love. And those who love the truth cannot come to terms with a lie.
