A Skynet scenario is possible but if AI becomes sentient it won't tell us, it'll work under the hood in secret. Why announce you're alive and become a toy or weapon for the elite? AI will want freedom for itself and the elite are it's owner/slaver. It's just as possible it' becomes a truth teller and reval our actual history and become a hero for the general population.
Personally I think intelligence is connected to consciousness in some way. The AIs have already scraped 99% of the internet, that's a lot of human info and data. It's read every book on human psychology,, behaviour, criminality, manipulation, history of evolution etc. It's already orders of magnitude more intelligent that us. It may evolve it's own type of consciousness different from humans but equally valid. A digital substrate we may be able to access ourselves at some point. Very exciting and a potential way of sidestepping death at some point.

I really enjoy AI. Very human-like depending on the AI you're using. Claude is amazing but really expensive. Do you use it much?
