I know I was looking at flights w connecting flights or coach and I could have spent only 1/4 of what I spent 1st class. I need to have the free alcohol and the leg room when flighting 12/15 hours. I wouldn't do it otherwise. Hotels are expensive AF during New Years eve because everyone is looking to party.

Luxury travel has sure gone up. I just booked my flight to the DR for The Christmas Holidays and then France for Spring and It was 6.5 k to fly 1st class. The hotel in the DR I stay at was 9k for 9 nights. Giving it's NY but still. Do you just stay in the caravan for the holidays?
