Jindabyne is the closest town 2 me, like a 25 min drive from the caravan n a 15 min drive from the house....its our "gateway 2 the ski fields" town, got about 3000 residents but it more than doubles in winter...not ur typical country town, more a tourist place, can get a bit busy in ski season but it gets a good vibe...

its not 1 particular place, but more a description of certain kind of landscape...u can have the outback in pretty much all states in aus cept 4 victoria n tasmania....victoria may have a little bit of it but its pretty much a greener wetter state than most...tasmania is wet most of the time...

the outback generally refers 2 the flat open dry country west of the dividing range that runs down part o the east coast...my guess is they made up the term in the early days when there was only settlement on the east coast n much of aus was unexplored....when u get way out in2 the outback its called the "never never"....in the olden days if u went out in2 the never never u were heading in2 unknown parts n would prob die of thirst...but in general the outback is flat open dry country....where i am is referred 2 as the high country or the snowies.....
