Not sure if Boston’s new mayor (Michelle Wu) should cancel the upcoming FIRST NIGHT celebration and due to a staggering surge in Covid cases. Nonetheless, I would and it would be an unpopular decision. I just know the layout of the venues (Copley Square and Rowe’s Wharf) and how congested with human traffic they become. Pre-Covid, that human congestion was part of the allure. But an array of musical acts, Midnight pyrotechnics, and (or) fireworks upon the Inner Harbor (pronounced Harbah and by Dorchester’s Donnie Wahlberg) isn’t really worth the risk and as this pathogen’s tendency is to extrapolate.
But, as they say, we get to keep the memory and hold on to the thought of better days ahead.
