Our natural belief system always been very open to all forms of sexuality. Is only due to Western influence that Japan gained some conservative ideals. During isolationism and before Meiji restoration, as a society we were very accepting of all forms of sexual orientation and gender identity. Cross-dressing was accepted in ancient Japan as androgyny is now. We are returning to our original beliefs, soon will be marriage equality here I think. Already this year was deemed unconstitutional to ban same-sex unions. Those conservative ideologies were forced on us during Meiji restoration, imperialism and post-war USA influence.
