Unfortunately, the chemical (vinyl chloride) in question is a key ingredient to what many of us use on a daily basis ~~~ PVC products. The same might be said for the toxic rollover in Arizona. What the government needs to do and, most especially, as it relates to the train derailment is twofold: be more forthright in its communication with the people affected by such unfolding disasters and force these companies (i.e., Norfolk Southern) to invest in the upgrade of its equipment and/or infrastructure. Throughout the United States, the rail system is in suspect condition (as is much of our public transportation infrastructure). That is in no fault due to the railroad employees, but the corporate entities that continuously choose profit over public safety.
