CALIFORNIA REQUIRES CREDIT CARD CODES FOR GUN SALES

California is the first state to enforce a 4-digit merchant category code (MCC) for gun stores, effective July 1.

This comes as several states ban such codes. The MCC tracks transaction types but not specific purchases.

Supporters argue it could help prevent mass shootings, while opponents cite privacy concerns.

Visa and other companies are now complying with the new law.
