When I was an undergrad (UMass-Lowell), I had a professor that seriously studied eugenics and it’s impact on society. In a paper, I had put forth the idea of employing genetic engineering to correct physical maladies ... but a fellow classmate who’s brother was special needs took great offense and it was entirely her fault in making the summation that this was the intent. But we know they history that people bend things to fit their agenda (such as Hitler in WW2 and due to his own insecurities). But YES the possibilities of pairings (as you stated) would be endless. The only question is not so much the physicality of the creation, but what may lay within the confines of one’s newly formed mind (does a cloned human retain the memories of who they once were?). I have visited Yugoslavia, (Pula & Split) before the war of 1991-95. I have also been to both Bulgaria ( Varna) and Romania( Constanta), those two had very little in common with Yugoslavia.
