I think my father would have liked a grandchild by now, probably my mother would have too. But they've never given any indication that they are disappointed. I'm the last of my line, on my mother's side. So I sometimes wonder was there ever an unspoken desire amongst her family, for me to have kids.

I'm an only child too. I get on ok with my mother, but not my father. He's incredibly demanding and hard to live with. Also, he never...ever apologizes, ever. I'm sure your parents assume that there is a side to your life that is private and only for you. I wouldn't say they are too naive about that.
