Yes, I applied for my Stasi file shortly after the fall of the Wall, and I did receive a response.
I received documents concerning my father, who lived in West Germany,
I had copies of all the letters he had written. The agency told me at the time that too many -
East Germans had applied to view their files and that I should check back in a few years.

I like cars named after Native American tribes. - When I was a child, I used to go into the city
center of Berlin and write down the license plate numbers of American cars.
American soldiers and buses would come over to East Germany to shop for bargains.
Someone gave me a tip: if I helped guide West German and American cars into parking spaces
in front of the Interhotel, I could earn some West German money. It was going well -
I had already made 2 DM—but then the Stasi showed up and sent me away.
I used the money to buy chewing gum.
