Bart (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is similar to NY subway system only above ground in most areas. Shut the freeway down for hours, during rush hour.

I have noticed the exact same thing for years about the defensive backs. They play way too soft in crucial situations, leaving that little cushion that you described. Most of the time the other team pulls off a few short plays and ends up winning close games with a field goal, because in reality all they have to do is get within field goal range.
