Well, it's important to realize that part of our culture involves those animals. It is very sad, yes, but they are also respected at the same time, taking form of great yaoguai and elemental forces. Modern China has strayed a way from those superstitions, though, thankfully. You will only see the poorer districts subjugate smaller animals. Very sad.
