I think it's a way for people to look elsewhere for meaning in their lives, because they can't give their own lives meaning. The wonders of the universe are far...far greater than anything that has ever been written in the bible, or any other holy book. Science is my religion, with a particular emphasis on cosmology. That shit blows my mind.
