three stooges reference to Emily Post. Emily Post .... Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics, and at Home (frequently referenced as Etiquette) is a book authored by Emily Post in 1922
@Yael of course, the entire theme of today's society . from the movie "they live" when roddy piper wears the glasses FYi i'm not your Mammy, but i think you are up too late
How have things been going for you as a pastor, Nadine? I know you must really enjoy it, especially after working so hard to get where you are today. All the traveling back and forth and the Bible study classes you’ve taken. Just wow! If people only knew how much hard work, time, and dedication you’ve put into reaching this point. I know this is a little late, but congratulations on all your accomplishments!
I'm okay, but I can't seem to get out of my own head, and honestly, it doesn't feel like things are getting any better. Maybe it's trauma from things I've experienced throughout my life, from being bullied in school to not having the greatest childhood.
I may have mentioned this before, but I used to be a happy person who genuinely enjoyed life. I was kindhearted, cared about others, and never wanted to be mean to anyone. Somewhere along the way, something changed. I've become a different person in some ways, and I don't always like who I've become.
I'm just being honest and opening up about something personal, even if it leaves me open to judgment. I guess I'm still trying to understand what happened to the person I used to be and how to find that part of myself again.
Other than that not much else going on. Just health issues with mom which has me concerned about her. Peace be with you Nadine
"if a word for an idea no longer exists, well, how can one even think that idea at all? To achieve this, language was divided into three distinct categories. First, there was the 'A' vocabulary—simple, everyday terms for basic activities like eating, drinking, and working. Then came the 'C' vocabulary, intended for technicians and scientists—a collection of specialized jargon designed to ensure they would never think beyond the confines of their own narrow fields. And finally, there was the core instrument of control: the 'B' vocabulary. These were politically charged terms, crafted specifically to implant the Party’s ideology directly into people’s minds. This was the ultimate goal—a total cultural and intellectual purge. As Orwell writes, the revolution would only be truly complete once language had been perfected—perfected, that is, in its ability to nip any thought of resistance in the bud, simply by depriving it of the words needed to express it. The sophistication of this system is perfectly illustrated by the word 'free.' It wasn't simply deleted—that would have been too crude. Instead, it was stripped of its dangerous political significance. People could still use the word, but only in a harmless, literal sense. The result? The very concept of freedom began to fade, gradually dissolving from the human consciousness."
Wow! I love your analytical mind. You're a rare gem Nadine. We owe it to the world to have kids. Their supreme intellect would allow them to take over the world, or save it. Give it some thought. ❤️
Einstein was also quite intelligent. Perhaps, when it comes to our potential children, we should look not only at their IQ, but also ensure that they don’t use their intelligence to write a letter to Roosevelt. After all, you wouldn’t want to be running through the valley only to find yourself fleeing from your own offspring.
@Yael Have faith, we are both people of good conscience. They would turn out alright. The world needs more saviours and fewer tyrants. What does it take, to win the heart of the fair Nadine, so that the world can have it's saviours?
One can contrast this with a different model of society: one whose stability does not rely on everyone using the "correct" language or sharing the same convictions, but rather on the capacity to navigate conflict.
"War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength."
"Alteration of the framework of thought: People learn to stop asking certain questions altogether, because the very act of formulating them is deemed illegitimate"
100%
"A resilient society, by contrast, would not require everyone to endorse every statement. Instead, it would strengthen people’s ability to distinguish between a claim and evidence, between criticism and dehumanization, and between an uncomfortable opinion and an actual threat"
That's a topic that's interested me for a while. I've looked into it several times in connection with Babylon 5 and George Orwell. That's why I found it interesting that you chose this particular topic
